The quickest way from San Jose to Santa Teresa is by air. Both Sansa Airlines and Green Airways offer daily flights. These scenic flights take about 25 minutes and cost around $100. Once you land in Tambor, it's a 40 minute drive to Santa Teresa.
One option is to rent a car through Budget (the only car rental service onsite at Tambor Airport). Another is a taxi or Uber for $30–50.
Renting a car from the airport, the best route is Route 27 to Puntarenas (60–90 minutes). At the ferry station, purchase a ticket and take the ferry across the gulf to Paquera (45–60 minutes). Ferry schedules vary by season — plan accordingly.
When you get off the ferry, follow Route 621 for about 60 minutes. Take your first left after crossing the Cobano River. Continue until you reach the crossroads for Mal Pais and Santa Teresa. Take a right onto Las Piedras Road and follow for about 10 minutes. We are located right in front of Kika Restaurant and Denga Surf Shop.
Costa Rica also offers private shuttle services such as Tropical Tours Shuttles — about $50 directly from San Jose to Santa Teresa. Tropical Tours also runs a daily water taxi from Jaco to Montezuma.
Two direct buses run twice daily (6 am and 2 pm) from San Jose to the Playa Carmen crossroads in Mal Pais. The ride takes about 6 hours and costs approximately $15 per person. The bus drops you directly at La Lora Beach Villa.
